Here is a synopsis:
A giant comet falls apart while circling the Sun, and the cluster of large fragments left will leave the Solar System and then return in ten years to threaten Earth like a cosmic shotgun blast.
Scientists declare it is not possible to destroy or deflect enough of the fragments to save the human race. It soon becomes apparent that the only way to survive as a race is to evacuate the entire population off the planet.
