Automated Food Production

Our food production processes are becoming increasingly automated.

AGRICULTURE – planting seeds, irrigation, weeding, and harvesting can all currently be done using automation.

PREPARATION – getting food ready for cooking involves things like cleaning, shelling and husking, crushing and grinding, and more. All of these tasks have been done by automation for many years.

COOKING – we also currently accomplish mixing ingredients, baking and frying, and many forms of presentation, using automation.

PACKAGING AND DISTRIBUTION – food products are frozen and vacuum packed, wrapped and packed and boxed, conveyed to trucks, and soon will be moved by autonomous vehicles.

The increase in automation is driven by factors in efficiency, labor costs, hygiene, and safety. It will continue.
