A Factory That Can Make Anything

3D printers, or fabricators, extrude materials in layers to build objects from digital design plans. Computer controlled laser cutters can etch and shape materials with fantastic detail. Additive manufacturing and rapid prototyping are becoming a new rapid form of manufacturing and there are not many limitations on what they can create.

What we were seeing was in fact an “Anything Factory”. An array of machines capable of making literally anything. To make something different, no particular re-tooling is required as you might find with a traditional factory. Just load the new design and the Anything Factory will make it.

Last week Fabbaloo had a rare opportunity for an onsite visit to the not-quite secret headquarters of 3D Printing leader 3D Systems to speak directly with those in charge of engineering, sales and marketing.
