1885 – Bohr – bio
Niels Henrik David Bohr was born in 1885 in Copenhagen, Denmark. He studied under Ernest Rutherford and expanded Rutherford’s theories into a model of atomic structure that included electrons circling the atomic nucleus. Bohr created the idea that an electron could drop to a lower energy level by emitting a quantum of light known as a photon. This become the basis for quantum theory. Bohr collaborated with John Wheeler to develop an idea proposed by George Gamow that the nucleus of an atom can be described as a drop of incompressible nuclear fluid.
Heisenberg worked as an assistant to Bohr.
