1452 – Da Vinci – bio
Leonardo da Vinci was born in Italy in 1452. He was a painter, inventor, mathematician, sculptor, architect, engineer and more. He is known as one of the most talented artists ever and for inventions and engineering feats that were far ahead of their time. His work included designing bridges, mills and engines for a variety of purposes. He understood the principles of friction, rack and pinion gears, hydraulics, momentum, centripetal force, bearings and the aerofoil. He created designs for diving suits, flying machines, cannons, and musical instruments.
When he was a youth, Leonardo worked as the apprentice for an artist known as Verrocchio. Among his most famous works of art are the painting known as, “the Mona Lisa”, the statue called, “David” and the painting known as, “The Vitruvian Man”.
