1960 – Laser

In 1960, Theodore Maiman operated the first LASER (Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation) using a small ruby rod, a flashlamp from a camera and a power supply.

1947 – stimulated emission demonstration
1950 – optical pumping
1953 – MASER
1958 – paper by Schawlow and Townes
